Train Simulator Classic Tips

Install Railworks 6 - Train Simulator 2015

Install Steam into a new bottle.
Install Visual C 2010, Direct X modern and Uniscribe. Before running the game delete the 'Installscript.vdf' file in the railworks folder otherwise Steam will keep on installing DirectX, Visual C etc.

The UseGLSL registry key needs to be set to enabled, otherwise graphics are garbled when using the enhanced shadows option.

If the utilities program is required (allows adding of legacy routes) then install .NET4.0 - it is not required otherwise.
To use the route overlay (this displays a Google maps overlay in the route editor) Internet Explorer 8 needs to be installed. The overlay displays on my system but when adding new items e.g. track the program locks up. This should be resolved when Crossover uses Wine version 1.7.25 or later (works using the latest Crossover nightly builds available to advocates).

On my system the game seems to run best when setting the Windows version to Windows 7 in Wine configuration rather than using a Windows 7 bottle initially as some things won't install. The game runs much faster in Mountain Lion than Mavericks or Yosemite on my system.
