Toolbox Tips

Installation CrossOver Mac 7.x

First, I have been to the site for Toolbox which seems to suggest it runs best under WindowsXP, this is important knowledge for installation purposes.

Next, the site suggests to use the Mac version for installing Toolbox.  I have installed both the Mac version and the Windows version and they both seem to work.  I believe the instructions for the Mac installation are a bit difficult and do not meet the guidelines we give for installing applications (although the Mac tweaking is dually noted and may be appreciated by some people more familiar with a Mac).  This being the case, I will give you the instructions to install the Windows version.  If you would like to try the way suggested on the site, I can re-write the instructions so that a few points are clearer.  However, I think the Windows version actually installs a bit cleaner (creates a menu item automatically, etc).  So, you will need to do is download the 'InstallToolbox155.exe' file if you have not already, I usually leave mine on the desktop so that I can find it when I begin.  (I also downloaded the self training bit, but that was so I could test the application)

On the title bar at the top of your Screen it should now read 'CrossOver'.

To the right you have the option to 'Configure', please highlight 'Configure'.

This will bring you to the 'Manage Bottles...' option along with several others, please select 'Manage Bottles...'.

When the Bottle Manager opens, you will see plus and minus sign buttons in the lower left corner of the screen.

Click the plus button to create a new bottle.  Give the bottle a name that has meaning for you (ToolBox) and make sure the bottle type selected is WinXP.  Now, create the bottle.  Creating a bottle takes time, especially if it is the first bottle or if you have many bottles (about 2-5 minutes).

Once the bottle is created, highlight the bottle you just created and highlight 'Applications' in the Bottle Manager window.

Now, click on 'Install Software'.

This will bring up a long list of applications that are supported through CrossOver.  Because Toolbox is not a supported application you will need to click on 'Install Unsupported Applications'.  You will receive a warning about unsupported applications and CrossOver (our standard disclaimer) that you can click past.

You will now be at a screen that asks you to either choose the installer file or installer folder.  Make sure 'Choose Installer File' is selected and then 'Continue'.

A finder window will now open asking you to tell CrossOver where the installer is.  Mine is on the Desktop, so I highlight 'Desktop' and then choose "InstallToolbox155.exe' and 'Install'.  The installer will open up, and it is quick!

When finished, close out of the windows that open and also the "Manage Bottles" window.

Highlight 'Programs' at the top and see that 'Toolbox' has been added to the list.  Highlight it and choose Toolbox (ToolBoxWindows) from the menu.

One piece I noticed right away.  On either the Mac or Windows version I was unable to create a new project.  I was always able to open an existing project.  I do not know how much this may or may not hinder your progress.
