First of all be sure to check if the game is running in windows 7 32bit compatibility mode. That is the most important part, it may run under the newer versions/64bit version, but the frequent crashes will occur.
Be sure to avoid alt+tabing because while tested on Ubuntu 20.04lts Gnome it had a tendency to freeze the window game as well as the desktop(had to manually shut down the desktop environment to terminal).
The game have been tested by me on Fedora and Ubuntu and in both cases the keyboard behaved flawlessly, however the Arch based distros(Arch, Manjaro etc) have sometimes a problem with not properly recording the keystrokes.
In such case make sure your user is added to input group and try to use older Kernel, it should solve the problem.
