The next gen update defaults the game to starting with DirectX 12, which isn't currently supported. The game works very well with DirectX 11. To switch to using DirectX 11, follow these instructions:
1. Install and run Witcher 3 in Steam (it won't run this first time).
2. In your Witcher 3 bottle, click "Open C: Drive" in the right sidebar.
3. Navigate to the following location: drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/The Witcher 3
4. Open launcher-configuration.json with a text editor.
5. Change "fallback" from "DirectX 12" to "DirectX 11"
6. Save file and launch Witcher 3 again.
These instructions should work just fine for non-Steam installs, but the file location will obviously differ.
