For some people, using the "Install Windows Software" program doesn't work for installing the Sims 2, because the location of the setup.exe needs to be the current directory. I used the DVD of the Sims 2.
Follow the setups below to get the Sims 2 installed:
Open a console window (Terminal)
Change directories to location of the setup.exe program
cd /media/Sims2
Run the Crossover Games version of wine specifying the bottle you want it installed into, for example I created a bottle called "Unsupported" for the Sims 2 and finally specify the setup.exe program to run
