If you find that the game tends to crash or you are getting the missing textures bug, the best solution to the problem is to repair your disk permissions. I have found that this works for Mac OSX and I am going to assume that it works for Linux as well.
To repair your disk permission on Mac OSX (Leopard and Snow Leopard):
Before you begin close any applications that are running, such as Firefox or iTunes.
Go to the Applications Folder and look the folder called Utilities.
Then look for and open an application called Disk Utility.
Once the application opens, you will see the list of your storage devices.
Click on hard drive that has the game installed onto it. For me on my MacBook Pro 17" Pre-Unibody model, it would be the "250.06 GB Hitachi HTS542525K9SA00 Media."
Then look for and click a button that says "Repair Disk Permissions."
Then wait for it to finish. It could take anywhere to 3 minutes to 1 hour depending on the size of your hard drive and the number of permissions that need to be repaired. I recommend that you go do something else and check back every 10 minuets.
Once it has finished, close Disk Utility and go pwn some noobs.
This should help overall with the stability of the game. I do it about once or twice a day depending on how much TF2 I have been playing. I recommend doing this after a crash, when the game updates, and about once a week regardless of wether or not you have used CrossOver Games or CrossOver that week.
If have any questions, post in the compatibility forum for TF2.
