An easy workaround for this bug has been found. If your graphics are corrupted it is recommended that you try switching between tty terminals (e.g. alt + F1) and back to the game (usually Alt + F7). For a more permanent fix, try updating to the latest ATI video drivers or follow the tips provided below.
People with ATI video cards have reported numerous issues with corrupt or missing text and other graphical issues such as:
- Menu text scrambled - Ugly noise graphics while mouse hovering - Options screen text scrambled - Objectives list during mission scrambled
Adding nopat to the kernel boot command has fixed these issues for some users. This option should be added to the boot options in your boot loader. Instructions for grub2 are below:
Open a console and edit /etc/default/grub
Change the line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nopat"
