It looks like for this game you are required to have the NVIDIA official driver. A lot of times other drivers like "nouveua" will work with other games but for some reason when Star Trek queries DirectX Feature level they fail.
if you are seeing:
Log file shows the following XXXXX HH:MM:SS 994 [1]: ERROR: Failed to detect DirectX Feature Level
Please try uninstalling the driver you are using and up dating to the latest NVIDIA official driver, you can try from the distribution repository or from the NVIDIA web site.
Also if you have Linux (Not for Mac), you might want to include the DXVK which is not in the bottle.
