The issue: The game crashes when trying to load a new game.
The fix: As of this writing, there is an issue with the Open Source drivers provided by Ubuntu 14.04, which will make some games crash. Either update to the latest and greates MESA drivers for your system or just download and install the proprietary drivers. In my case, installing the Catalyst drivers for my AMD GPU fixed the issue.
