If having problems with File-New menu with SolidWorks, try these steps:
- Go to Tools->Options->Performance and check Use OpenGL - Check file locations and document templates, if you are having two lines in document template locations remove the first one - Go to default templates and try if you can now show the default templates - Go to performance and uncheck the OpenGL option - If successful then start modelling with SWx
