If the software freezes when trying to create a new document, try opening an existing one instead. (You can find both the blank templates and possibly some examples in the application directory under 'Engineering Reference\PAR'). In some instances I've observed that this will "fix" the issue and after doing this once, it will let you use the templates to create new empty designs.
