SIM Easy 8.20 Tips

How to run SimEasy on Linux

1) make a WinXP bottle and copy the SimEasy binary to drive C

2) plug in your USB sim card reader

3) check dmesg for USB device name, should be something like:

[171602.701718] usb 1-1.2.4: Product: USB-Serial Controller
[171602.701722] usb 1-1.2.4: Manufacturer: Prolific Technology Inc.
[171602.703651] pl2303 1-1.2.4:1.0: pl2303 converter detected
[171602.705650] usb 1-1.2.4: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0

4) chown it to current user:

sudo chown $USERNAME /dev/ttyUSB0

5) make a symlink to provide the bottle with access to the device (as user, no sudo):

ln -s /dev/ttyUSB0 ~/.cxoffice/SIM\ toolkit/dosdevices/com1

That's it! You may run it or create a launcher.
