You can get Alpha Centauri and the expansion running under Crossover Games with a bit of effort. I tested using the "Planetary Pack" single CD installation but other versions should be similar.
* Install in a WIN98 bottle.
* If you are using the SMACPP version click on the left 1/4 of the installer's blank splash screen to install the game.
* Set the WINE virtual desktop to 1024x768 (Configure > Manage Bottle then select Control Panel for your bottle and winecfg. Then select the Graphics tab in winecfg once launched).
* Once installed use Programs > Run Command... to launch "Terran.exe" from the game installation directory in the bottle. Once run, quit.
* Edit the "Alpha Centauri.ini" in the game directory and make the following changes:
ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=1
DisableOpeningMovie=1
(Both entries should exist already)
* Now run the game using Programs > Run Command.... TERRAN.EXE for the original game and TERRANX.EXE for the expansion.
The game does occasionally pause for several seconds (seems to mostly be when clicking menu options). Have a bit of patience or you'll keep clicking in and out of menus!
