Sometimes when opening up a new dialog box - such as when using "restore" to select a backup file for restoration, or any other action that opens up a small dialog box - RootsMagic 5 can appear as if has has become frozen and unresponsive.
This is usually because the dialog box has opened up behind the main window of the program. Even though most of the button in the program won't work, you can move the main window by dragging the top bar, or re-size the window by grabbing the bottom-right corner, and look behind for the hidden dialog that needs your attention. After attending to the dialog box, things should go back to normal.
To improve the situation, you can change the window controls. This will make the program a bit “uglier”, but should prevent the windows from drawing behind the main RootsMagic screen most of the time.
To do this, make sure RootsMagic is closed, and go to Crossover’s Configure>Manage Bottles menu. Highlight your RootsMagic 5 bottle, and then head to Control Panel>Wine Configuration, and launch Wine Configuration. Now, go to the “graphics” tab. Un-check the item that says allow window manager to control the windows, and then click “apply” and “ok”.
Now, launch RootsMagic 5. You should see that the windows look “older”, like they would on a Windows XP machine, but the behavior of the windows with regards to their appearing behind the main screen should be improved.
