Rift Tips

Games freezes after character select screen on first run.

• Change in-game settings from Fullscreen to Windowed, exit game.
• Launch game again, change back from Windowed to Fullscreen. Game will work.

"Cannot connect to character servers"

• Update Crossover to 10.0 (Linux) or 10.1 (Mac OS)

"Renderer Failure. Compatibility renderer will be enabled on next launch."

• Relaunch RIFT.... OR

• Edit the config file:
• ON MAC - Go to Configure>Manage Bottles, select the RIFT bottle, then choose Advanced>Open C: Drive in Finder, browse to drive_c/users/crossover/Application Data/RIFT/rift.cfg
• ON LINUX - Go to Manage Bottles, select the RIFT bottle, choose Advanced>Browse C: Drive, browse to drive_c/users/crossover/Application Data/RIFT/rift.cfg 
• open that "rift.cfg" file in a text editor
  
• Change LegacyRenderer to "True"
• Save the file
  
• Restart RIFT

setting "LegacyRenderer" to "True" in the "rift.cfg" file is also a common fix if RIFT will launch but can't get into the character selection screen, which means that the High Quality renderer is too much for your graphics card to handle. Enabling the Legacy Renderer will "tone down" the graphics.

"Error communicating with the patching process. (Error #1026) Last Message: 0000006D"

• Click OK and try again. Eventually it will go through.

Mac OS X Dock covers bottom of screen

• Change RIFT "Basic Video Settings" to Windowed mode...  OR

• Change the Dock preferences to "Automatically hide and show the Dock"
