ReBirth RB-338 Tips

Mounting the ReBirth install CD image on a Mac

Here's how you can mount the ReBirth install ISO image on a Mac running OS X Leopard / Snow Leopard. Please note that these commands need to be run with root (superuser) privileges using the Terminal application. This is potentially dangerous, so don't try it unless you have Unix command line experience.

1. First lets attach the ISO image to the OS X BSD subsystem vnode disc driver.

/usr/libexec/vndevice attach /dev/vn0 rebirth_iso_installation.iso

2. Now we can mount the image using a temporary directory as a mount point.

mkdir /tmp/RB338V20
mount -t cd9660 /dev/vn0 /tmp/RB338V20

3. The contents of the install CD should now be accessible in Finder under the Devices side panel. Unfortunately ReBirth won't recognize this as a valid mounted CD, but at least you can install the application in CrossOver and create a custom mountable ISO image or an install CD-R disc. Check the Mac install guide above for more information.

4. Don't forget to unmount and detach the image when you are done.

umount /tmp/RB338V20
/usr/libexec/vndevice detach /dev/vn0
rmdir /tmp/RB338V20
