Here's a quick guide for installing Windows version of Propellerhead
ReBirth RB-338 on a Mac. Please note that you need a Windows or a Linux
machine to accomplish this. The ReBirth install CD is not readable on
Mac OS X Leopard / Snow Leopard.
1. Download the official ReBirth RB-338 install ISO disc image from
The ReBirth Museum and extract its contents on a Windows or Linux machine. The free Windows file archiver 7-Zip is great for this task.
2. Burn the contents of the install image to a blank CD-R disc. Use
standard Mode 1 ISO 9660 + Joliet file system and label the disc
RB338V20.
3. Install ReBirth on the Mac using your custom install disc from step
2. Use a Windows XP compatible bottle on CrossOver for best results.
Once started the program might complain if you don't have any MIDI
input devices (master keyboards, control surfaces etc.) connected. This
is harmless - just ignore it.
4 (optional). ReBirth has an annoying habit of asking for the install
CD every time the program is run. You can work around this by copying
the install disc to an ISO image with programs like Burn or Toast, and then just double-click the image file to mount it before running
ReBirth. You can also create an ISO image with your Windows / Linux
machine on step 2 and use that for installing and running the program.
That's it! Now go create some cool retro synth grooves. :)
