When you have the DVD inserted and mounted, do not use the cd/dvd install function. Instead, browse to the actual "Install Reason" binary. For some reason, the cd/dvd install doesn't work.
Also, the bottle type must be winxp, as windows 2000 is not supported. I haven't tried with Windows 2003 yet, but I plan to.
