On a fresh install of Portal 2, my system struggles to run the game, even with the eye candy turned down. So, I pooled together information I gathered from Portal 2's Wine AppDB page. I edited the application's launch properties to reflect the following changes:
Afterwards, the game was noticeably more responsive albeit at the expense of the beautiful graphics. I'm not exactly sure if Portal 2 actually accepts "-dxlevel 80" as a valid parameter, but that particular flag has helped me run other Source-based games in the past so I figured it wouldn't hurt.
