Populous 3: The Beginning Tips

Steps to get the game installed (Using Crossover Games 7.1.1 on a macbook pro 3,1):
1) Create a new bottle, but don't use the default auto-run installer this WILL NOT WORK!
2) Install unsupported software into your bottle, choose the installer file, point it to /Volumes/your_populous_cd/setup/english/setup.exe
3) Install should work, as you are using the actual game installer now, not the autorun menu
4) After the game installs and the crossover wizard finishes, you can't play just yet - the mouse cursor sticks to the middle of the screen.
5) To sort out the mouse, we need to edit the registry. To do this, select Programs from the top menu bar, then Run Command
6) Ensure that your populous bottle is selected, and type "regedit" into the "command" textbox. Hit "run"
7) The standard regedit application should run. Now, navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Wine
8) You will need to right click wine and select New > Key
9) call it "DirectInput"
10) Within the freshly created DirectInput key, create a new "string value"
11) Call it "MouseWarpOverride" with a value of "disable". I would also recommend using winecfg to set the game to play in a virtual "window" than fullscreen, I always seemed to loose the keyboard in fullscreen mode. I also only use the software rendering, the d3d version causes me isues.
12) Now have a go at loading populous 3!
