A new issue with PaperPort 12 is that newly created PDF files have a Docucom PDF Trial Watermark. See the Nuance website, use a link to download Corelib.zip, extract files, then use the Crossover installer to install Setup.exe. You should now be able to work with document files without having a Docucom watermark applied!
