No Tip Title!
Problem (#1):
I had some trouble getting this to install.
I could not get it to accept my serial number, or recognize a previous version (which would qualify you for an upgrade) during installation.
Solution (#1):
I booted up iEmulator ($19) or you can use Q (Free), Paralells ($80), Virtual PC (too expensive, slow and bloated), BootCamp (Free) or VMWare Fusion ($80 and awesome). I installed PSP 9 and copied the installation directory from "Program Files" in the virtual machine, to the "Program Files" folder located in my Crossover Wine Bottle.
v9 Is simple, (powerful), elegant and self-contained enough that this is all you need for significant functionality. There may be additional DLLs required in order to acquire additional functionality, but I haven't looked further into this just yet.
The Step Forward:
PSP9 will launch.
Problem (#2)
It is unable to display the RTF license agreement upon First Run, therefore all you get is an error message and then it closes.
Solution (#2):
Install the version of ie6 which is supported by Crossover. Now, the necessary RTF support is in place, letting you view and agree to the EULA. I realize that this is overkill, and that in fact, only two or three of the files that are installed with ie6, are actually the support files needed in order to display RTF. I may be able to figure those out at a later date or time.
Problem (#3):
The (included?) version of atl71.dll, appears to need an update which is indicated by another error message.
Solution (#3):
This was easy. Google turned up just the file we needed. Download and overwrite the one found in the "Paint Shop Pro 9" folder and Bob's Your Uncle!
Accessibility (a):
Crossover will not recognize this an an "Installed" application, so it will not appear in your Crossover "Programs" menu, or as a ".app"
Resolution (a):
Crate an Alias (whose icon you can replace with a nicer one) and copy it to the desired location (desktop or Dock) and...
Paint Shop Pro will now run!!!
