Installation from the original CDs might need additional tampering, due to the CD-check. To avoid this problem, I suggest using the gog.com version, which has been De-DRM'ed.
In my CD version, the menu-created items didn't want to work. Launching manually the game's main exe "mm9.exe" from the "Execute Command" did the trick. Once the game is started, it doesn't give any problem: paradoxically, it works better on my mac that on my modern windows machine, that makes the game crash after a game is loaded.
