Microsoft Publisher 2000 Tips

The templates problem

Every time you try to start a new document from a template, you experience a crash. Seems like it comes from these methods (stubs):

  • richedit:RichEditANSIWndProc WM_SETFONT
  • richedit:RichEditANSIWndProc EM_REQUESTRESIZE

A few log lines after, the app crashes with a page fault (while calling memcpy with a null pointer as source):

  • =>1 0xb7eaa83c memcpy+0x1c in libc.so.6 (0x7fb3d6d4)
  • 2 0x7f6bc5c9 SmallBlockChainStream_ReadAt+0xf9 in ole32 (0x7fb3d714)

My take is, one (both?) of the stub method returns a null value, which is next used as a pointer to some data. Then Publisher tries to copy the data elsewhere, hence the crash.
