Both test machines are running Fedora Core 2 and 3.0.1 COO
Publisher will start OK under COO, but there are several difficulties.
Installation may be spotty. For example installation on one system after Office 2000 went smoothly, but on another system after Office 2K and Visio 2002 Publisher would not install.
Creating a separate account for testing Publisher and installing just Publisher (along with IE, etc.) did install on the same machine.
Operation is also, at best, erratic. On the first machine the UI locks up constantly, especially with the wizard active. You can eventually get it to start working again by changing focus for the application and/or using the menu accelerator keys. I could create a simple document and cause the text to be edited in Word and then updated back to Publisher. But the UI does lock up frequently and some operations are slow.
Sometimes it appears that the mouse is captured by Publisher even when the mouse is outside of the application frame. You can tell this because you will see the guide tick marks in the rulers in Publisher moving when the mouse is outside of the frame. This appears to conicide with the UI lock up. If you move the mouse from the menu area of the frame into the client area this appears to trigger the UI lock up and the mouse capture.
On the second machine you can sometimes start to edit a simple document, but then either the UI locks up or Publisher just exits. Also, Publisher exits when it is loading a previously created document
I'll have more specific test results, as well as steps to recreate the problems shortly.
