Microsoft Outlook 2007 Tips

Open attachments in Native Apps

If Outlook is installed as a part of the Office suite, then it will open .doc(x), .xls(x), and other MS Office-specific file types in the appropriate office app by default.

Using .docx as the example - if you've set Pages as the default app for .docx files in your OS X settings, Outlook will not respect this by default. To get Outlook to ignore Word for .docx files and pass the file to your chosen default app, go to Crossover's Programs>Run Command menu. Enter "regedit" in the command field, and click "run".

Now, inside regedit, open HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. Click on ".docx", and delete all the settings within.
You don't have to worry about the sub-folders within .docx, such as "Persistent Handler" and "ShellEx". Just delete the settings found within .docx, itself. Now, when you double-click to open a docx file directly from an email in outlook, it will respect whatever the default setting is for .docx files on your OS X (Pages, for example), rather that passing the file to word automatically.
