Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Tips

Download and install Mono available for Mac or Linux. If its a simple app.

For Linux:  It should be available in the repository.  Simply install the full Mono-Runtime metapackage that should install all major Mono Libraries packages.   This is usually listed as Mono-Full, Mono-Runtime-Full or something similar (e.g. Mono-Runtime-Complete or Mono-Environment-Complete). You should be able to run Mono programs from the command using the command mono before the name of the executable.   Most Distros will also configure your desktop environment to launch mono applications with the "Open with" option in the desktop, if not you can enable this automatically.  Unfortunately most desktop environments can't tell mono applications from other exe files, so this may change the default double click action for all exe files.  Both will of course, still be available in the "Open with" menu, and you can select which one to run it with.

For Programs with Win32 binary dependencies:  You can install Wine-Mono instead of .Net for many such programs.  Some programs still require .Net, but I recommend Wine-Mono for applications that support it, as it often runs faster and with fewer bugs if a missing API is not encountered.  Crossover can install Wine-Mono into a bottle from the install programs prompt.  In the mean-time you may have to create a custom install crosstie template for the program in order to change it's dependency from .Net to wine-mono.
