An active LOTRO account, CrossOver Games 10.1 or Crossover 11, and an appropriate LOTRO installer
** How do I get an account?
Go tohttp://www.lotro.com and register. Be sure you select the appropriate flag/country to be placed on an appropriate server
** How much does LOTRO cost?
Nothing, unless you want to pay for extras: LOTRO is currently to a free-to-play service. Visit http://www.lotro.com for details.
** Will the DVD installs work?
The Mithril Edition DVD should work without issue, as should the Mines of Moria DVD. Any DVD install will need to be patched before accessing the game, so you might consider simply downloading the installer outright.
** What is PyLOTRO, and why do I need it?
PyLOTRO is alternative Launcher/Patcher for LOTRO. This is required to run LOTRO and is installed automatically. The game launcher/patcher is known to be incompatible with CXG/WINE. Without PyLOTRO, it is very difficult to patch and log in to the game. (Patching must be started manually)
** PyLOTRO is telling me it cannot find Language Files
PyLOTRO has not been configured. Use the Settings Wizard to select the install directory.
** LOTRO has no sound (Mac)
Outdated versions of CXG do not play sound from LOTRO properly. Update the CXG files to the current release to fix this issue.
** LOTRO has no sound (Linux)
Under Linux setting the sound system to OSS will give you game sounds but not cut-scene sounds, setting it to ALSA should give you both, however at the moment pulseaudio and ALSA don't get on very well (from a CXG point of view) so you may experience game crashes caused by pulseaudio crashing - disabling pulseaudio before playing should work but some distributions will respawn pulseaudio if it is stopped (they must be expecting it to crash a lot
** Windowed game loses focus
Use the winecfg tool (under configuration) and untick "allow the window manager to control the windows", you might also need to untick "emulate a virtual desktop" as well.
** Patch reports finished but game reports incorrect version/can not patch
Look in the game directory for a backup directory, in there you should find a copy of patchclient.dll, copy that into the game directory and try patching again. It appears that sometimes patchclient can become corrupt after patching.
