This problem was fixed in version 3.0.0 of Crossover, but unfortunately seems to be back again in Crossover version 5.0.0. When trying to start the game, it immediatly gives an error message that it cannot find the cd.
I don't think this is copy protection related, as I was able to get ingame several years ago using the version of Wine that came with SUSE 6.4.
