Sound on a Laptop with i8x0 chipset:

First check this page for some good tips: Sound FAQs

I have boiled down the page to what I actually used to get sound to work.

* Make sure you are using the correct driver for your sound system. ALSA=winealsa.drv, OSS=wineoss.drv, ARTs=winearts.drv, etc.. You can change this in either the Office Setup panel, or in the file ~/.cxoffice/dotwine/config

* Turn on hardware emulation in ~/.cxoffice/dotwine/config. Make sure the following line is in the config file:
"HardwareAcceleration" = "Emulation"

* If sound is still a little spotty, you may want to try different values in the following. I personally found the following values to work the best:
"HELmargin" = "16"
"HELqueue" = "16"
