Sound must be disabled. To do this, go to the programs menu, then CrossOver -> Configuration. Select the bottle you installed Heroes of Might and Magic in, then select the game's entry within it and press Configure. Go to the control panel tab and run the command 'winecfg'. Then go to the audio tab and uncheck all sound drivers, then hit OK.
