H&R 2009 Tips

If you haven't backed up your taxcut09 bottle, now would be an excellent time to do so.

Warning!!!  If you allow the running program to install the update automatically, it does not actually install, even though the program might indicate that it installed successfully.  ALSO, Warning!!!!! DO NOT use the Install Windows Software method to install the update.  It will try to install it in a new bottle, or, if you force it to install in your existing taxcut09 bottle, it will actually uninstall your previously installed HRBlock2009, and install the update without the required base installation.  Nothing will work then.  I know this from personal experience.  If you haven't backed up your taxcut09 bottle, now would be an excellent time to do so.

Start your installation of HRBlock2009 as normal.  When your program indicates that updates are available from H&R Block, download the file via Tools > Update the Program.  After you have downloaded the update, do not let the running program complete the update automatically.  Instead, save the update somewhere you'll know where to find it.  Close and exit the program.  From your Linux desktop, (I run on Ubuntu 9.04) click on Start > CrossOver > Run a Windows Command > scroll to your taxcut bottle > browse > (in my case the file is located "/home/al/.cxoffice/taxcut09/drive_c/Program Files/HRBlock2009/updates/HRBlock_PremiumSE_Update_A.exe") > Run.  The update program will run while the bottle remains inactive.  When finished, close anything opened, and launch your installation of HRBlock2009.  The update will have been successfully installed. 

If you accidentally bork your installation of HRBlock2009, not to worry!  You have your backup, don't you?  Don't you?
