Half-Life 2 Tips

HL2-based game fails to launch from new Steam GUI

This is caused by a bad video setting stored in the registry.

In Crossover go to the Programs menu, Run Command (Mac) or start the Crossover Run Command program (Linux).

Select the bottle containing Steam. Type the command regedit and press Run Command.

Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Valve/Source/

and in there you should see folders listed for your games (tf, css, l4d2). Right-click the folder for your game and delete it.

When you start that HL2-based game in Steam it'll regenerate its registry key with valid entries.
