Note: This installation walk-through was put together using Crossover Games 8.x.x
and linux. The same procedure still applies for Crossover Games 9.0 however the
images below depict the CXG-8.x.x GUI elements -- if you have any problems with
incorporating these instructions into the CXG-9.0 situation, post to the Forum here.
This game installs cleanly into it's own bottle using the
winXP bottle profile.
Do not launch the game at the end of
installation - just exit the installer.
You will need obtain a copy of the official GTA3 v1.1 patch -
Try thisOnce you have obtained the .zip patch, extract the gta3patch.exe file,
and copy it to the following location (linux path shown);
~/.cxgames/<bottle name>/drive_c/Program Files/Rockstar Games/
This game supports multiple 4:3 aspect fullscreen resolutions, however
for those of us running widescreen 16:9/10 display hardware, this will
require running crossover/wine in windowed mode (Emulate a virtual desktop)
We will also use cxsetup here, to install the official v1.1 patch copied
in the step above.
0. Start
cxsetup1. Highlight the bottle you installed the game into
2. Click on 'Configure' => 'Control Panel' => 'winecfg' -- the Wine Configuration GUI will appear
3. Now click on 'Graphics' tab => tick 'Emulate a virtual desktop'
4. After enabling virtual desktop mode, the default desktop size will be 800x600 - change this to 640x480.
5. Click on 'Apply' => 'Ok' => 'Ok"
6. With the bottle you installed the game into highlighted, click on Configure => 'Control Panel'
7. Click on the 'Run' button => 'Browse' and navigate to the gta3patch.exe you copied in the step above,
then click on 'Open' => 'Run' to apply the official update patch.Once finished, click 'Close'
8. Exit
cxsetup
9. Play the game!!
Note: After installation of the official v1.1 patch, the CD check routine will start
to work correctly and you will have to have the 'Play' CD in the drive and mounted for
the game to start and run.
