Installing the Game
CO-Version used: 6.1.0; Bottle: Win2000
Use your DVD to install. Click on "Manage Bottles" in the Configure-Menu.
Pick the bottle you want to use, win2000 recommended.
Go to the Applications-tab and klick on "Install software".
In the opening window, choose "Install unsopported software".
Install from directory and use your DVD or mounted DVD-image as the source directory.
There were some problems with my disk (ie somehow the setup.exe could not be read - not a crossover problem, since the finder couldn't copy it to the desktop as well), so I made an image of it using disk utility. You might do so as well if there's problems with your disks, too.
Proceed with setup normally. Don't install XFire and DirectX. Do not search for updates using CO.
On the DVD, there is a directory called "dx90c". Expand the Feb2006_d3dx9_29_x86 cab-file.
Copy the d3dx9_29.dll to the Windows/System32/ directory of your bottle.
If you don't know how to find it, there's a "Open C drive in finder" option unter the Advanced tab in the "Manage Bottles" window.
Crossover has problems displaying the startup videos. So, go to the Gothic III folder and erase all files in Data/Video/ except for G3_Intro.bik and G3_Credits.bik.
Download the 1.12-Patch from one of the mirrors listed here:
http://www.gothic3.com/index.php?do=097099116105111110061109101100105097
Install the patch - same way as you installed the game.
In the "Manage Bottle"-window, go to the Control Panel tab and launch winecfg.
Under the Graphics tab, make sure all options are enabled.
Use an appropriate Desktop-resolution, it should be smaller than your screens resolution,my maximum was 1440x900 on a 1680x1050 screen, any bigger, and the game would crash.
Exit Wine.
The Digital Rights Management (DRM) software in this program
prevents it from running in CrossOver. If you are in a legal jurisdiction
which allows removal of such software, you may have luck running this
program. Unfortunately, CodeWeavers, because they are subject to the
Digital Millennium Copyright Act, will be unable to support you.
To launch the game, go to Programs and choose "Run Command". Choose the Gothic3.exe from your Gothic III folder.
Be patient.Once you're in the menu, start a new game.
If the screen remains black and the menu won't show up, install DirectX 9.0c in addition from the Gothic3 disc. That did it for me. Once done with that, go back to this step.
Wait 2 minutes. Press Esc.
You will be in-game.
And yes, the upper half of the screen is not rendered properly, and mouse-movement only works in menus.
