The default sound configuration for my system didn't produce any sound with this app. It would just complain about DirectX compatibility issues. I am running an Ubuntu "Hoary Hedghog" stock install. I was able to fix the problem by using a suggestion from the CXO5 FAQ 7.1.3.6.7 (Dealing with Sound Issues). I typed the following, at a command prompt, to fix the problem.
~/cxoffice/bin/wine --bottle name_of_your_bottle --wl-app winecfg
I changed the Audio Driver to ALSA under the Audio tab and saved. Then I started the app again and was able to play sound files. -- This still doesn't seem to fix my inablility to record sound, more to come...
