By default, Gems of War uses Direct3D for its graphics, which CrossOver has to translate to OpenGL. By using OpenGL for graphics instead, CrossOver can pass graphics operations straight through to the graphics driver on your Mac or Linux system, enabling the best graphics performance.
To activate OpenGL mode, just add -force-glcore to the Gems of War launch options:
In Steam, right-click on Gems of War.
Select Properties (bottom option in the popup menu).
Click "Set Launch Options…" in the Properties window.
In the text box, enter -force-glcore and click OK.
