Running version 8.1.4 of CrossOver Games:
- install the OffscreenRenderingMode registry key (see also http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=9620) - launch regedit from c:\windows
- expand the tree at HKEY_CURRENT_USER - Software - Wine
- add the Direct3D key
- add OffscreenRenderingMode as string key
- set OffscreenRenderingMode to backbuffer
- install the run time install version of directx (you can use the crossover install wizard or head over to microsoft.com for the latest)
- install firefox (my preference but IE might work too, fox 3.5.6 worked for me) from http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/
- head over to www.freerealms.com to complete install
Some known issues:
- firefox occasionally freezes after login (before the game really starts), a forced quit for crossover and restart helped
- full screen mode is slightly cut off on the top on widescreens, on non wide screens full screen mode does not function correctly
- the shadings look somewhat better with directx 9 august than with directx 9 march (which is what the installwizard installs), only attempt august if you are familiar with the process yourself
