It seems that Kchmviewer works for using the help file. Follow the earlier instructions here and instead use Kchmviewer as the application to launch the help file. Note that it won't launch from within Agent correctly.
I'm not convinced that Gnochm won't work properly, but I uninstalled Xchm (which was useless for my needs since it translates the help file to a PDF file) and Gnochm would then crash and quit. But Kchmviewer let me read the text of the help file entries. I tried Archmage also but it extracts the information using a terminal into a folder (directory) and I preferred to use the help file as it was originally designed.
You can try either program (Kchmviewer or Gnochm) and see what happens. You can change which program is used to view the file and always switch it in the properties window with a right-click on the help file. I made a separate copy of the help file on my desktop and use that to open it.
