You can use FireWorks MX from Dreamweaver to optimize images. For that you insert an image in your html page then you resize it as needed and then right click on it and choose "Optimize with Fireworks". There you choose you image settings an click save. The image is then optimized and resized to the size you have set it up in Dreamweaver design layout.
Beware: do not close the fireworks information window that pops up
