Getting PlayOnline and FFXI Installed on new versions of CXG
After doing some research on the Wine AppDB, I found that the only version of PlayOnline and FFXI that works with newer versions of WINE (and in turn CXG) is the newest Vista/Win7 build of PlayOnline. If you buy a retail version of FFXI, then you will not run into a problem. If you are cheap and use the older versions of PlayOnline and FFXI (like me), you will not be able to get it to run under a WinVista bottle. You will need to download the most recent PlayOnline client from the main FFXI web site.
After installing the PlayOnline client, install FFXI as usual. If you are interested in the post on WINE AppDB that I found this information at, you can find it here: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=2739&iTestingId=47308
Update: Zak Adelman has a CXG-specific guide that works with CXG 8.1 up to the current release (9.0.0). Please do NOT follow the tips below unless you are using an older version of CXG.
