Final Fantasy VIII Tips

Guide to Installing Final Fantasy VIII (Steam)

When Installing Final Fantasy VIII, Direct X components can be missed or fail to install.
In the case of Steam, install into the Steam Bottle.  In the case of Installing Final Fantasy VIII via discs, Install the extras into the Final Fantasy VIII Bottle.
1) After Installing Final Fantasy VIII, Install DirectMusic into the Neccessary Bottle, followed by Simple DirectMedia Libraries.

2) If you are missing Neccessary files, the game may crash from combat scenes in the game.

3) If you are having compatibility issues with Installing Simple DirectMedia Libraries, go into wine configuration and install the following libraries, using the Game Bottle if the game is a disc installation, or if the game is a Steam Installation, use the following files in the "Libraries" Tab of Wine Configuration

dmband.dll
dmime.dll
dmloader.dll
dmstyle.dll
dmsynth.dll
dmusic.dll
eax.dll

4) After using either method, the game should run very well.
