Final Draft 6 uses an anti-piracy scheme that, in default mode, requires the original distribution CD to be present in the CD-Rom drive. However, on the test system (SuSE 8.2), the program failed to see the CD even though it was mounted and could be seen from other programs.
You can get around this problem by 'authorising' the program (Final Draft calls this authorising the hard drive). When you run the program, you will see a dialog box giving you the option to run the program in 'Demo' mode. Do this. When the program is running, select Help -> Authorize. You will get a dialog box with two options. The automatic authorisation didn't work on the test set-up and caused the program to hang. You need to use the manual authorisation, which means a phone call to Final Draft. Ignore the phone number given - there is an automated reponse line on:
888-320-7555 for U.S. and Canadian callers
+1-818-906-8930 for international callers
Or you can call an operator on +1 818-789-6281 during office hours (west coast US). You will need to quote your customer number (the serial number of the software) and the challenge code given in the dialog box. You will be given a response code to type into the box. From that point on, you won't need the CD.
