This is based on the Epic Games Store version of Fallout, installed on an Apple M1 Ultra, macOS Sequoia 15.3.2. This assumes you have already installed the Epic Games Launcher in a Win 10/64 bottle, signed in and installed Fallout. This also assumes using the English version. The EGS version has the high res patch already installed.
If the game states a resolution error when attempting to launch, you will need to manually set the video options with the Hi-Res patch.
- select the bottle you have the Epic Games Launcher installed in. The Epic Games launcher can be running while doing this.
- click 'Run Command' on the right hand side of the window.
- the bottle should already be set to the current bottle you're using. Click 'Browse'.
- navigate to 'drive_c/Program Files/Epic Games/fallout/Fallout 1 English/'
- select 'f1_res_Config.exe' and click 'Open', and then click 'Run' without adding any options.
- select a resolution, enable the hi-res patch and set the refresh rate to 60Hz instead of 0.
- optionally set the colour bit depth to 16 if you discover the graphics render incorrectly.
- optionally set the Scaling X2 to make it easier to see.
- click 'Done' and the config will exit. Close the 'Run Command' window.
Once it's configured, it will run via D3DMetal, DXMT or Wine as a backend. Videos are still glitchy.
- launch game via the Epic Games launcher.
You can redo this process to fiddle with the settings further, but you should be able to adjust them from in game now.
