Before I begin one important caveat: The Steam version of the Creation Kit doesn't seem to work with WINE at all. I've tried running it both through the Linux version of Steam with Proton and the Windows version of Steam running through Crossover. However, it does work fairly reliably using the GOG version of Fallout 4. This does require some setup though.
Another caveat: This assumes some degree of computer literacy, which seems a fair assumption giving the nature of what we're doing here.
The Windows version of GOG doesn't work with Crossover and the native version of GOG Galaxy won't let you download Windows games. Therefore, we will be using Heroic to download the GOG version of Fallout 4. For the uninitiated, Heroic is an open source tool for downloading and launching GOG, Epic, and Amazon games. It also has built in WINE/Crossover support.
Once you have Heroic, you can use it to download Fallout 4. You will need to make a bottle in Crossover for it. You will have to make the bottle in Crossover before you can launch anything from Heroic. You need to specify it in Heroic, so naming the bottle something memorable and easy to spell is probably a good idea. I chose "Heroic."
While Fallout 4 installs be sure to track down Mod Organizer 2 and the GOG compatible version of the Creation Kit. You'll be using MO2 to launch the Creation Kit once it is all installed.
The Creation Kit is easy to install. You can just unzip the zip in the Fallout 4 root folder. MO2 you will have to install through Crossover using the installation exe. This can be downloaded from their GitHub. Follow the prompts through the installation. I have had a recurring issues where it crashes on the first launch, but works on relaunches.
If you already had the properly installed in Creation Kit in the Fallout 4 folder MO2 should find it on its own and you can get modding! You can also feel free to grab the Creation Kit Extended from Nexus.
