Exile Tips

These instructions are for the Ubisoft Myst III: Exile

I used the Myst 10th Anniversary DVD Edition that contains all three games.

To install:

Use a windows 98 bottle, follow the instructions of the install DVD and when given the options to install additional software only check the Quicktime option. Install Quicktime into the same bottle and don't associated it with any extensions except Quicktime movies (just in case). The version I used was Quicktime 6.3. I would not recommend Quicktime 7 as it might conflict with the game. Do not install DirectX9, crossover already has it's own implementation of that API. I did a minimal install of the game (requires the DVD to play).

Things tested:

Game works, directional audio, water effects. Rendering both with software and DirectX verified to work. 

Bugs:

1. Screen redraws: Sometimes on the dark areas above and below the frame mouse trails and old screens persist until there is a full screen redraw (just zoom into something.) Fixed in cxgames 7.2

2. Alt-Tabbing to another application will unlock the mouse from it's central position. Right-click on the mouse to lock it.

Note:

To get it in windowed mode you must start winecfg for the bottle (through crossover configuration dialog) and on the Graphics tab select emulate desktop. The resolution I tested was 800x600. For whatever reason if the resolution matches the games (640x480) it doesn't work.
