Dungeon Keeper Tips

Running on Mac

Despite Dungeon Keeper (both Gold and Classic) not installing from CrossOver software, you can install and run the game nigh perfectly using DOSBox. It takes little effort, but a lot of disk space. Instead of normally installing, I had to download the entire CD to a directory, and access the directory from DOSBox, and run it in DOS mode. Only two real problems: One is that there is no music for some reason. Plenty of sound, all the normal sounds, but no music. In the sound setup it states that it cannot find the midi drivers, despite finding the digital audio drivers. The next problem is due to the limitations of DOSBox in that the game can run somewhat slowly in congested areas (i.e. huge battle sequences with 20+ characters and crazy spells). Also, install can sometimes have a severe slowdown and crash problem, but it is only occasional and only presents itself during install. Lastly, as this was designed as a Windows game there are a number of options on the CD (Deeper Dungeons, Direct-3D) that cannot be accessed.

Thanks for listening,
