Fixing the graphics issues of the GOG.com version

The GOG.com version doesn't work correctly out-of-the-box, the in-game graphics would appear garbled, the mouse pointer would leave trails etc. These graphics issues can be fixed by setting the rendering mode to software, but you will need the original configuration utility to do that, since the GOG.com version won't let you alter the rendering mode. The game runs fairly well at 1024x768 with software rendering, but it becomes a bit chunky at higher resolutions.

Here are the installation steps for the GOG.com version:
  1. Install the game as an unsupported application into a new WinXP bottle called Divine Divinity. Use the GOG.com installer (setup_divine_divinity.exe) and in the fist setup dialog click Options and uncheck the Foxit Reader checkbox, it's not needed.

  2. You'll need the original configtool.exe file from the non-GOG.com version install disks or from the demo version to set the software rendering mode. If you don't have the original install disks, you can download the demo version from Gamespot.com:

  3. Install the demo version as an unsupported application into a new WinXP bottle called Divine Divinity Demo.

  4. Select the Configure > Manage Bottles menu in CrossOver, select the Divine Divinity Demo bottle and in the Advanced tab press the Open C: Drive in Finder button. Navigate to Program Files/Divine Divinity Demo, you'll find the original configtool.exe there.

  5. Now open the C: drive of the Divine Divinity bottle the same way as described in step 4. Navigate to the folder Program Files/GOG.com/Divine Divinity, rename the file configtool.exe to configtool-gog.exe, then copy the original configtool.exe from the demo folder there.

  6. You'll have to launch the original config utility from the command line:

    • Select the Programs > Run command menu in CrossOver.
    • Select the Divine Divinity bottle in the Use bottle combo box at the top of the dialog.
    • Unfold the Debug Options and click Open Shell.
    • A terminal window will appear, where you'll have to enter the following two commands:
      cd Program\ Files/GOG.com/Divine\ Divinity/
      wine configtool.exe
    • The config window will appear, set the rendering system to Software then press the Apply & Close button.

  7. If you want to set the resolution to 1024x768 or higher, you'll have to use configtool-gog.exe as described in step 6.
