Dead Space 2 Tips

I had to enable Virtual Desktop Mode in order to get this game to launch. If you don't do this you receive an error on launch like "Your graphics card does not meet Dead Space 2 minimum requirements". There are possible work arounds I've yet to explore - i will update if i verify any.

Also note: I bought and installed this through Steam. I've heard of issues of the Boxed CD/DVD version that unlocks/registers the app during installation failing. While it sounds like there are ways to fix it, it was much more simple and better (digital copy) to install through Steam, IMO.

Steps for Virtual Desktop enable

1. Launch "Manage Bottles" app thats usually in your cxgames bin directory
2. Click on desired Bottle name (if you haven't created one yet - run cxinstall and install Steam through their easy list - then pick back up here)
3. Click on the "Control Panel" tab
4. Click on the "Wine Configuration" in the item list
5. Click on the "Launch Selected Item" button below
6. In the Wine Config window - click on the "Graphics" tab
7. Click the checkbox for "Emulate a Virtual Desktop"
8. Input your desired resolution below - NOTE: Whatever resolution you set here will be the max available resolution to Steam/Dead Space 2. So unless you want to run in Windowed mode - you'll probably want to enter your monitor/screens max resolution here to run full screen.
9. Click the "Okay" button
10. Close out of "Manage Bottles" window
11. Launch Steam/Dead Space 2 - and enjoy :-)
