Day of Defeat: Source Tips

Using Vsync to get the Most out of your FPS

As we all know running Day of Defeat: Source on a Mac or Linux with Crossover incurs a performance penalty, so it is essential to make the fps that you do get work for you.  Most LCD monitors redraw 60 times per second, and if extra frames are rendered between these intervals, or in an unsynchronized manner it causes visual disturbances, and unnecessary strain on your video card.  Enabling Vsync will cause almost no drop in FPS, I had 0, some of you may have a single digit number at most.  The benefit of this is that the frames that are drawn are perfectly synchronized with the blanking interval, and a noticeable increase in smoothness will occur.  If you have Vsync on you can then enter fps_max 60 in your console since unless you have a 120 Hz gaming monitor anything above 60 fps will be wasted and will just serve to increase the temperature of your GPU.  If you have a 120 Hz monitor use fps_max 120.  Enjoy.
